Come and See!

The 2014 Crib Festival is now in full swing officially opened by the Bishop of Tewkesbury, Martyn Snow.  Loaned from Salisbury Cathedral this stunning display makes a breath-takingly beautiful sight in the chancel of the church. Hours of work went into setting it up and the result is most rewarding as the pictures demonstrate below.

This is the big week. We welcome all to come and celebrate the birth of Christ this year… See more pictures of this year’s festival!

This year's event

This year’s Crib Festival  runs from Wednesday 3rd December to Sunday 7th December. It comprises a number of events and activities. It will be open for schools on the first two days (Dec 3-4) and public viewings throughout the 4 days. A Crib Cafe will be open every day with a selection of homemade cakes, gateaux and biscuits. There will also be homemade soups and rolls served daily.

This year the special feature will be a display loaned by Salisbury Cathedral on the theme of angels. As usual cribs will be on display from around the world – some made of seemingly obscure materials.

The Bishop of Tewkesbury will be there to open the Festival at a VIP reception on the evening of December 2nd. On Victorian Day (Friday Dec 5) donkeys will be in the church during the morning. There will also be special activities for Toddlers on Friday morning. The Chipping Sodbury School Choir will sing on Friday evening at 6pm and there will be drumming workshops throughout the evening.

Saturday has a number of events scheduled. The donkeys will again be there in the morning, while at 11am there will be a ‘same, same’ but different’ theatre for the re-telling of the Christmas story. This will be repeated at 2.30pm. This will be followed by Nativity in Action by the Kathryn Hurley Dance Academy.

On the final day, Sunday, there will be Family Communion at 9.30am. Public viewing of cribs will be available for the last session from 11.00 – 4.30pm and will be followed by a Contemplative Reflection.
