St James the Elder is a lovely country Church, with a warm welcome to all visitors and is on the outskirts of Horton adjacent to Horton Court, which is unfortunately not now open to the public, after its recent re-furbishment. This is a site of national interest and which has been used for filming the BBC serial “Wolf Hall”, “Poldark” and ‘The Living and The Dead’.
Horton is a village at the south end of the Cotswolds on the route of the Cotswold Way and is surrounded by beautiful country. The Church is located immediately adjacent to the “the Cotswold Way” and is open every day for visitors and walkers and we would invite you to look around.
The church is a dynamic group of people who enjoy the community focus and are proud of their identity and historical background.
We welcome all visitors. Our Sunday services are held at 11.15am each week and to accommodate all tastes the pattern of worship the services are divided equally between BCP and CW. (please refer to the page on Services for specific dates);
- First Sunday of the Month – Morning Prayer
- Second Sunday of the Month – Holy Communion (CW)
- Third Sunday of the Month – Morning Prayer (CW)
- Fourth Sunday of the Month – Holy Communion (BCP)
- Fifth Sunday of the Month (if relevant) Benefice Service (see calendar for location)
