ROOF APPEAL

YOUR Village Church is in need of your help

We are faced with the daunting task of raising funds for repairs to our church roof and other essential maintenance and therefore help St. James the Elder to serve the people of Horton now and into the future.

We are asking for your support in three ways: by praying, donating and volunteering.

Why the need ?

The Church dates back to 1300. Most of the structure has lasted very well, but over recent years it has begun to show its age, the last major repairs having been undertaken in 1940. During a recent survey it was identified that the roof over the north side of the Church is in serious need of repair and that leakage of rainwater into the fabric of the building is already occurring with consequent internal damage. The rainwater goods, gutters and downpipes are also showing their age adding to the leakage issues.

Why now?

If irreparable damage to the fabric of the building is to be avoided, we must tackle this now.

How much will it cost?

We estimate that well in excess of £100,000 will initially be needed for the project and you will see below how we intend to raise the funds needed. To be able to apply to grants we also need to demonstrate our commitment through our own giving to potential grant-funders.

How do we intend to pay for the renovations?

  • Applications to Charitable Funding Bodies – We are applying for grants from the Diocese and other agencies that aim to preserve and refurbish church buildings.
  • An appeal to the local and wider community – We are appealing to our members and supporters to help us pay for the work and to fulfil our commitment to keep the church open.
  • What can I do ?
  • Pray;
  • Volunteer to run a fundraising event;
  • Support any future fund raising events;
  • Make a donation to the Church Roof Appeal.

We know many of you already donate to the church on a monthly basis and we would welcome an increase or a specific “one off” donation to our cause.

Cash or cheques, made payable to Horton PCC and sent to
