ears of wheat

The fields around us are already turning white for harvest – perhaps you have noticed. And it is still July! Because of the extended dry weather, forecasts suggest that our normal crop yields this year will be considerably reduced. The drought has already brought hosepipe bans in the northwest.

But unlike many in our world who are constantly faced with drought we are not unduly alarmed. We have confidence that our daily needs will be met. Nevertheless it gives us a measure of insight into the plight of the many who are less fortunate. Their plight is often compounded by war and strife. Corruption in governments forestall the good intentions of many international aid programmes. The hungry go unfed. They are forgotten, hidden from our sight.

Happily, God does not forget them. May we through our prayers, and by whatever means we can, be mindful of them. And may God help us to share of the many blessings he has given us.
